JASID provides interdisciplinary network of researchers and practitioners of international development.

Membership Categories and Annual Membership Fees

  • Full member (developed countries) 10,000 yen
  • Student member* 5,000 yen
  • Supporting Member 100,000 yen or more
*If you are a government official who studies in Japan, please register as a full member. Financial year: October 1st – September 30th

   To become a member, you need to have recommendations (signature) from two current JASID full members. In case you have difficulties to find recommenders, please attach CV (including list of articles/presentations) to your application form. After the review, committee members will be your recommenders.

   If you wish to be registered as a student member, please send us a copy of your student ID (both sides) or the official documents that prove your status as a student when you apply. Without these documents, your application might be reviewed as a full member.


Application Form

  1. Click the ”Register” button on the left of the top page and fill in necessary information.
  2. Confirm the information that you have filled in and click “Confirm” button.
  3. A message from JASID HQ will be sent to the email address you registered.
  4. Click the link in the message, input the authentication code and click “download”. Please note that the link will expire in a week.
  5. Send the application form to JASID HQ by postal mail. Concerned about the address of JASID HQ, please show the mail from JASID HQ.

   Please make sure not to forget 1) Application date, 2) Signature of Applicant , 3) 2 recommenders’ signature. 4) Copy of both sides of your student ID(for student members only).

   Please refer to the information on the “Application Process” page for the instructions on how to fill out the form and how to apply.


Application Process

   If you wish to be registered as a student member, please send us a copy of your student ID (both sides) or the official documents that prove your status as a student when you apply. Without these documents, your application might be reviewed as a full member.

   After we receive your application, the below procedures will follow.

Submitting Your Application

   After filling out all the required information, please mail your application documents to the Head Quarter. (We do not accept applications via e-mail or fax.) We always welcome applications.

Processed by the Headquarters

   The Headquarters secretariat will check your application documents and accept them if all the required documents/information are provided. The secretariat will contact you when your application has any problems.

  1. Reviewed by the executive committee
    Application forms will be reviewed by the committee members and goes through closer review at the committee meeting. We will contact you if there are any problems.
  2. Making a decision
    The executive committee makes a decision.
  3. Notification
    The result will be notified. If you are accepted, we will send you a bill for the membership fee. Please send money using the enclosed payment slip.

  1. Registration
    Once the Headquarters accepts your membership fee, your registration completes. You will receive the latest journal, newsletters, and login ID and password for the member-only website. (Please kindly be informed that if we run out of journals/newsletters, we cannot send them.) Public Relations Committee will also register your email address to our mailing list. You name will be appeared on the newsletter as new members.

   Please update your registered information through member-only website if there are any changes. Some information, such as your membership category, can be changed only by the Headquarters. Please contact us (hq@jasid.org) if you need to change such information.


Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long does it usually take to be accepted?

A: Although it depends on when you apply, usually it takes about 1-3 months.

Q: Can non-members make presentations at the conferences?

A: No. Only JASID members can enjoy our services. If you wish to make a presentation, please submit your application documents by the end of July for the annual conference or by the end of February for the Spring conference. Even if you get your membership, you cannot apply for the conference presentation until we confirm your payment. You can make a presentation or hold a session with non-members. Please contact us for more detail.

Q: I want to submit my paper to the Journal of International Development Studies. Should I be a JASID member when I submit my paper?

A: Yes, only JASID member can submit their papers to our journal.

Q: If I submit my application documents during the conference, can I be registered as a member?

A: We do not accept applications during the conference. You will be registered as a non-member.

Q: I want to take a leave for a while.

A: Sorry, we do not have such mechanism.

Q: I forgot to pay the membership fee.

A: Your membership will be removed if you do not pay your fee for three straight years. The bill includes the amount you fail to pay.
