Q: I haven’t received my postal parcel.

A: The journal is sent by “Kuroneko Mail” from the Journal Publication Centre. All other mail is sent via the post office. The following are some of the most common causes of non-delivery of postal items.

Address description was incomplete.

Please register the full address notation, including the room number, on your “My Page” for the mailing address. A great deal of mail is returned because there is no room number in the address.

The surname on the nameplate and the name of the person to whom it is addressed are different.

If the surname given as researcher and the surname on the postal address are different, it is often assumed that the researcher has moved to a new address.

In this case, please add the surname as it appears on the address to the end of the address registered on your “My Page”.

Alternatively, the surname can be added to the family name by notifying the JASID Secretariat Office.

The relocation notice was submitted to the post office but not to JASID

The conference journal is sent by Kuroneko Mail.
For this reason, the journal will not be forwarded to your new address even if you notify the post office of your change of address.
Please complete the following notification form.

See also below for information on the procedures to be taken when moving house.

Every time we send out mail including the journals, a large volume of mail is returned to the JASID Secretariat Office. The JASID Secretariat Office spends an inordinate amount of time checking new addresses and re-directing mail. We would be grateful for your cooperation in ensuring the smooth running of JASID.

JASID Prize Selection

JASID Prizes and Poster Presentation Awards

The prize selection committee is in charge of evaluation and selection on the JASID Prizes and the Poster Presentation Awards. JASID Prizes are categorized into Grand Prize, Encouragement Prize, Journal Paper Prize and Committee Special Award.

Grand Prize is awarded to the distinguished book or monograph; Journal Paper Prize is awarded to an excellent paper published in an academic journal on the field of international development including the Journal of International Development Studies published by JASID.

Encouragement Prize mainly commends the achievement by a young scholar. Committee Special Prize commends contribution to practice, policy making and enlightenment on the field of international development. The call for the nomination of the Prizes usually starts in May every year.

The Poster Presentation Awards commend excellent presentations in the poster sessions of JASID Spring and Annual Conferences.

Q: Designate an overseas destination for postal items

Answer

If you would like mail from JASID to be sent abroad, please go to your “My Page” and change your address.

You will need to devise a method of stating this.

A) Sent to my overseas affiliation address

Do NOT enter the information of your institution address, even if you are mailing to your institution.
Please provide the following information in English in the Home> Address > Address field.
-Name
-Name of your institution
-Address (including country and zip code)
*In some countries/regions, this may be a P.O. Box instead of an address.
ex.)Ms. JASID Hanako, JASID Secretariat Office, P.O. Box XXXX, XX Central Post Office, XX City, PHILIPPINES

B) Sent to my home address abroad.

ex.)Ms. JASID Hanako, XXth Floor, XXXX Tower, RCBC Plaza 0000 XXXX Avenue, XX City, PHILIPPINES

Notes on international shipping

JASID also dispatches our journal through a contractor to members who live overseas.

However, due to international circumstances such as new coronavirus infections or the Russian invasion of Ukraine, or postal conditions in the recipient country, there may be cases where the postal item (the conference journal) sent out may not reach you.

For this reason, the JASID Secretariat Office will not be able to respond to any enquiries regarding undelivered journals sent overseas. Please be aware of this in advance.

Members living abroad who wish to stop receiving our journals should contact the JASID Secretariat Office.

[RG23-1] Gender and Development

The enhancement of gender equality and women’s empowerment is an important issue to be addressed by the global community. It is also the target of an independent goal, Goal 5, and considered from a cross-disciplinary perspective to tackle other goals in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The concept of ‘Gender and Development’ has been adopted since the 1970s. It has made women visible in the development field and raised awareness of gender issues in relation to policies, institutions, regional societies and households both at global and local levels. On the other hand, as demonstrated by the limited achievement of SDG5 and the low gender gap index, initiatives to solve gender issues have not been enough to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment. Although various activities have been implemented at the individual levels and treated as good practice, they have not combined into a corrective approach.

The core concept of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Leave No One Behind, reminds us of the need for further discussions about differences between women and men, and about gender and diversity and intersectionality. However, discussion about issues surrounding diversity often leads to misunderstandings that negatively impact discussion of the inequality between women and men.

The aim of this group is to find effective approaches to the issues of gender equality and women’s empowerment that fill the gaps between policies and theories at the macro level and field activities at the micro (grass roots) level, such as information sharing, field research and/or awareness raising. The findings will be presented at the annual conference and compiled to share in proceedings. The objective of the first year is information sharing among members and planning for the activities of the second and third years.

[BO-4] KANSAI Branch

More than 20 years, the Japan Society for International Development (JASID) Kansai Branch has been aiming at promoting research activities on international development and cooperation by conducting a series of study sessions on different cutting-edge topics through an interdisciplinary approach. For each study session, we have invited first-hand researchers and practitioners on development studies as guest speakers.

Especially in the past few years, we have conducted active discussions on issues related to human security, human capital development, and risk management, including social risk in international development. This fiscal year’s primary objective of the Kansai Branch is to provide study sessions and discussions on current “hot” development topics, including those related to current/post-COVID-19.

We expect that these study sessions will encourage young researchers to enhance their knowledge and skills to present their research findings in international/domestic academic conferences and submit their papers to academic research journals.

We also expect young researchers to promote their academic networking with guest speakers and regular JASID members to enhance their interest in development studies.
