Participation in Conferences during the Recess

Answer

During recesses, the member does not have the right to use the services as a member.

For this reason, it is not possible to submit an application for a conference presentation or to participate in the conference as a presenter (nor to take part in organised sessions or round tables).

However, it is possible to attend the conference as an auditor. In this case, please note that the participation fee is not the member price, but the general price applies.

Receipt of applications for recess in FY 2024 [D/L: 17th Sep.]

JASID has introduced a leave of absence system starting in FY 2023.

This system allows full members and student members to take a leave of absence for up to four consecutive years.

During the period of suspension, member services will be suspended, the sending of the journal and ML will cease, and applications and presentations at the conference will not be possible.

In addition, the right to be elected and to vote in the election of candidates for the Board of Directors will also be suspended.

Public Notice of the Election of Candidates for the Board of Directors [from May 9 to May 23]

Dear Members of the Japan Society for International Development

This is an announcement from the Election Committee. The following election will be held to select candidates for the Category 1 Board of Directors, term 12, of the Japan Society for International Development (JASID). Please participate in the voting.

1. Election Period

May 9th, 2023 (Tue) 8:00am ~ May 23rd (Tue) 17:00 (Japan time)

2. Electors and Candidates

1) Electors (those eligible to vote in the election):
Those who were members of JASID as of December 4th, 2022 (on the day of General Assembly). However, those who have issued a notice of recess are excluded.

2) Candidates (candidates for the election of Category 1 Board of Directors):
The list was finalized on April 9, 2023 (30 days before the election date), and the list can be viewed and downloaded by logging in to the member’s My Page on the Society’s website. Password* is required to view the file. Please use this list only for election purposes and refrain from copying or printing it.
*Password are emailed to eligible members.

3. Implementation Method

It will be an online election using the web election system.
1) At 8:00 a.m. on May 9, two e-mails will be sent to each member from the JASID Election Administration Committee. The first one contains a URL to access the web election system.

4. Election Helpdesk

During the election period (May 9~23), a help desk will be set up by the election administration committee members. If you have any problems, please contact us by email.

For technical matters, the committee will contact the contractor of the web system, so it may take about one day. Thank you for your understanding.

5. Ballot counting and reporting the results

Outline

Periods of Recess

A maximum of four consecutive years can be suspended. There is no limit to the number of times you can use the service.


Suspended Members Services

The member services that will be suspended are as follows.

  1. Mailing of our journals
  2. ML (only information related to membership will be distributed)
  3. Conference Presentations (It is possible to attend the conference presentations as a general guest.)
  4. Election of Candidates for Board of Directors
  5. Voting rights for the election of candidates for the Board of Directors

You will be able to access your “My Page” while you are on leave.

You can change your e-mail address registered on your “My Page” even while you are on a leave of absence.

Please make sure that you are able to receive emails from us even during your leave of absence.


Terms of Use

Only members who have paid their annual dues in full up to the year prior to the year in which they wish to take a recess may take a recess. If you have any outstanding dues, please complete the payment before applying.


How to apply

Once a year (around summer), we will send out an ML regarding the application for recess. Please follow the instructions in the ML to apply for recess.


Reinstatement Procedures

You will have two opportunities to return to membership each year, in October and April. If you return in April, your annual membership fee for that year will be reduced by half.

Each will receive an ML 2 to 3 months in advance regarding the application process for reinstatement. This will be sent to all members who have taken a recess, regardless of the length of the recess requested in advance. Those who wish to return to the activities of the Society are requested to follow the procedures for reinstatement.

– Admission to membership

It takes about two months to complete the procedure. If you are considering reinstatement for the purpose of presenting at a conference, please complete the reinstatement procedures well in advance.

A: Even if you live in abroad, you can now continue to be active in various membership activities via the Internet.

However, depending on your location, postal conditions may make it difficult for us to deliver paper copies of the journal. For this reason, when you move abroad, you may take the following procedures depending on your situation.


Stop Sending Postal Mail

All information provided by the academic societies can be obtained via the Internet. The JASID journal can also be viewed on our website or on J-stage.

Confirmation of Payment Method of Membership Fee

Even if you live overseas, you can pay your membership fee by credit card on your “My Page”. If you have selected bank check, we ask that you change your payment method to credit card.

You can also send money from your account in Japan to the JASID’s Japan Post Bank account. For members who do not have overseas payment methods, please contact the JASID Secretariat.


Using Recess System

The recess system will be available beginning in fiscal year 2023. This system is available only to members who not have unpaid membership fees.

Q: Is there a system to suspend membership?




Q: I am a member of JASID. However, I was told “You are not a member of JASID” when I submitted a paper or applied for the conference

Answer

入会を申し込んだだけでは学会員の資格を得たことにはなりません。

入会の申請後、常任理事会での審査を経て、初回の会費の支払い完了後に、会員番号が付与されてはじめて、在会者として会員サービスの利用が可能となります。

入会承認の通知が届いた後に初年度会費の支払がなされていないため、ステータスが「申請中」から変更になっていないケースがあります。

また、会費の滞納が続いたり、事務局がEメール・郵便のいずれでも当該会員と連絡が取れなくなったことにより退会処分となっている事例も散見されます。また、海外赴任等で会費の送金ができない期間があったなどで籍を失うケースもあります。

海外へ転出されるなどで学会活動を休止したい会員は、事前に休会手続きをお取りください。

Q: I am on a leave of absence from university. Can I still enroll in JASID as a student member?

A: Every August, we ask student members to submit their student ID card to prove that they are students. At this time, they can continue their student membership if they submit a copy of a document that proves that they are on a leave of absence (e.g., a certificate of absence from school).

Please note that you must remember to renew your membership every year until you return to school. If not submitted, you will become a regular member from the following year. In addition, from the FY2023 (October 2022), we have established a self-suspension system, so you may use it.

For working students, we ask that you join as a full member. If you have any questions, please contact the JASID Secretariat.
