Expression of Concern over Russia’s Violation of UN Charter in Ukraine
The recent Russian invasion of Ukraine is a both a humanitarian crisis and a violation of the UN Charter, which mandates “respect for sovereignty,” “preservation of territory,” and “prohibition of the use of force.” The lives of the elderly, children, women, men, and many others are threatened not just in Ukraine but also in Russia. We are deeply concerned about this situation and strongly hope that a peaceful solution through dialogue and negotiation are forthcoming to prevent further suffering.
On behalf of the Japan Society for International Development (JASID), we take this opportunity to reconfirm our aspiration for peace, which is the foundation of any activity that aims to uplift the lives of people and to promote a sound and just development.
