CICE Listening Series: “The Transformative Power of Education”
There is little dispute that the countries which experienced the fastest economic growth are those which have educated their young people most intensively. But the arguments for investing in education are about much more than economics. The framers of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights considered education to be key to building a more peaceful and just world. More recently, Martha Nussbaum and Amarya Sen argued that education plays a foundational role in creating human capabilities. This talk will explore these non-economic arguments for education and why they may be more important than ever for the current development agenda.
