Theme: Searching for Alternative Approach to SDGs

Abstract:
This study searches for alternative approach to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) focusing on Buddhism. Although SDGs are universal development policy to address global issues, there should be various approaches based on their unique character, goal-based governance’. So far many of development theories and policies have been the western origin, Buddhism as Asian wisdom shows philosophy and practice of alternative way for sustainable development. In a Buddhist thought, “inter-being (skt. pratītya-samutpāda)” human economic and social activities are considered as parts of the life of the Earth, making it highly compatible with the concept of sustainable development.
